YOUR ARTICLE on the London low-emission zone (Are you ready for the London LEZ?', CM 22 Nov) requires clarification. "lbe 80,000 non-compliant vehicles you quote is information that is several months out of sate and does not take account :)f recent action by operators to make their vehicles compliant. It :Aso includes vehicles that will be iffected by both the February and July phases of the scheme. Transport for London (TfL) stimates that 30,000 vehicles are -equired to take action for the irst phase of the scheme which iffects trucks over 12 tonnes from 1February 2008.
Operators of affected vehicles lave a number of options to :omply with the LEZ,of which itting an abatement device is )nly one. Other options include ;ertifying an engine on the 77.figible Engines list. buying a tewer vehicle, reorganising their leet,or paying the daily charge.
We are confident the majority vehicles will comply by the time he scheme affects them.
