• Truck operators delivering to Salisbury town centre face severe disruption if Wiltshire County Council goes ahead with a daytime heavy truck ban, warns the Freight Transport Association.
The association's Barrie Hodson told a public inquiry last week that a 10:00-16:00hrs ban on trucks over 7.5 tonnes would affect deliveries but would barely reduce traffic.
"There would be severe dis ruption for many firms from as far away as Reading, Basingstoke, Oxford and even Derbyshire," he says.
The inquiry into a range of council traffic orders for the city centre finished last week but no action is expected for three months.
Hodson told the inquiry that construction of the long-awaited Brunel link bypass would be a more effective cure for the city's congestion.
