The investigation into the Sheffield sale was conducted by senior personnel at MAN. including the financial and personnel directors. The following is an extract from an internal MAN memo read to CMby Alistair Williamson.
-At least three MAN dealers rejected the opportunity to quote due to their inability to achieve the weight restriction. However, TC Harrison staff quoted and orders for four vehicles were secured.
"At some stage, which is unclear, it became apparent that the vehicles would not achieve the required kerbweight and were in fact about 300kg too heavy.
"The components that were removed were front and rear anti-roll bars, brake drums and shoes from the lifting centre axle and bunks from the cab, "The vehicles were then submitted to the weighbridge whereupon they passed the test and returned to the dealer for the missing parts to be fitted and then put into service."
