• Allen's Motor Services of Mountsorrel, Leicestershire, has been acquired by the Nom firm of G. Howlett and Son Ltd. for a substantial sum. The deal, which makes the Quorn firm the biggest privately owned coach business in Leicestershire, became operative on June 1.
Allen's has only sold the coach side of its business and will continue to operate its garage at Leicester Road, Mountsorrel.
The change means that Howlett will now run the daily express to Skegness from Loughborough and Leicester. It will also be able to increase its service of coaches from Loughborough rather than from its headquarters at Quorn. The business was founded in the 1920s and before the merger had 20 coaches.
Allen's used to run the service on the Leicester to Loughborough route but this was acquired by Midland Red from the original proprietor, Mr. Charles Allen, and at one time ran the Loughborough town service which was acquired by Trent.
