Light cv operators who want to reduce accident damage and insurance claims might benefit from the new Accident Data Recorder (ADR) from VDO Kienzle UK (formerly Lucas Kienzle).
ADR allows investigators to determine the cause of crashes more precisely. The unit fits in a boot or under a seat and acts like an aircraft in-flight recorder, keeping a rolling 45second log of a vehicle's movements through up to 10 "status inputs" including transverse and longitudinal acceleration; vehicle rotation; braking; signals; and doors opening. Up to three "events" can be recorded, allowing the vehicle's exact movements to be checked following a multiple accident.
Data can be downloaded to a PC at the push of a button, and the unit is said to be tamperproof. Each ADR costs £350.
