But it can be used to find out how you should plan your business," Pigden believes that 85% of Optrak's customers use the system for daily operational planning, while 20% are using it for strategic purposes Wincanton and 3663 for example. A number of third-party consultants also use the system for strategy work, while some 3PLs are using it for bid preparation.
Pigden adds: "If they use Optrak to model it, its more likely they'll use Optrak in the operation."
Optrak does some consultancy work for clients a typical example is where an operator is considering a move to smaller vehicles for deliveries. "Because the data is already on their systems, we can do it cost-effectively," says Pigden. However, he adds: 'Almost all our consultancy is part of our pre-sales process or consultancy to existing customers. We only offer consultancy on vehicle routeing, we won't tell anyone how to run a warehouse."
