• Irish Customs has seized two trucks at Rosslare Harbour, each of which was carrying 20 pallets of undeclared alcohol.
Vodka worth £250,000 was found in an Irish-registered truck—six pallets of apples were used to conceal 20 pallets of vodka. The duty payable was £130,000.
Two weeks earlier a UKregistered artic was seized with £104,000-worth of wine and beer on board. Both had come from Cherbourg. If found guilty the two drivers face fines of up to three times the duty, or five years in jail.
I Dublin Port was disrupted last week when 100 Liverpool dockers picketed the gates. Their action was aimed at Coastal Container Lines: a subsidiary of Mersey Docks & Harbour Company which sacked the dockers two years ago.
