• A Lancashire operator called to public inquiry for the fourth time in three years has had her licence revoked.
Morecambe-based Violet Hammond failed to appear before North Western Deputy Traffic Commissioner Patrick Mulvenna at a Trafford disciplinary inquiry. She had been called before the Deputy Commissioner because of concern over her maintenance record and two convictions for tachograph offences.
Vehicle examiner Bryan Heyhurst said Hammond did not actually run the business. He had dealt with a Cyril Clark, who appeared to run the business, and Hammond's son Peter was also involved.
Agreeing that all three previ
ous public inquiries stemmed from adverse maintenance reports, Heyhurst said that there had been no real improvement in maintenance standards and they came along to public inquiry and made promises they just did not keep.
in effect they tell lies when they get here," said Heyhurst. He also claimed Hammond owed money to a number of commercial garages in the area.
Revoking the three-vehicle and two-trailer licence with immediate effect, Mulvenna said a number of prohibition notices had been issued to Hammond's vehicles and trailers since the last public inquiry.
And Hammond had also failed to submit accounts requested so he could not be satisfied about her finances.
