A LICENCE BID has been turned down on road safety and environmental grounds, despite evidence of neighbours' support and no objections to the application.
Ian and Frances Yole were seeking a new restricted licence for a 7.5-tonne vehicle based at Ralston Avenue. Oldham. to be used as a mobile shop. Vehicle examiner Andrew Smith said that in March he had examined the vehicle outside the applicants' home, their operating centre. He imposed an immediate prohibition for a defective tyre. Ian Yole said he had moved the vehicle to allow refuse collection and that he had replaced the t)Te immediately. Then a fuel leak was found and a variation notice issued. Again he had the defect rectified immediately.
Traffic examiner John Greenhalgh said the proposed operating centre was unsuitable because it was in a predominantly residential area. It was impossible to manoeuvre the vehicle on site and to both enter and leave in forward gear.
