• A Committee for Industrial Technologies has been set up by the Department of Trade and Industry to advise on measures to promote greater awareness of the importance of a number of multidisciplinary technologies. The first meeting was held last week, members being drawn from industrial, academic and professional organizations at senior level.
The Committee, which plans to meet four times a year, reporting annually to the Minister for Trade and Industry, Will formulate policies on the promotion of industrial technologies as an entity and will co-ordinate action on individual technologies, including trbology, terotechnology, corrosion technology and materials handling.
It has been estimated that greater attention to the best techniques in these areas could result in benefits of up to £1500m a year in the manufacturing, service and distributive trades and industries.
