fragile 18ft long model of the QE2 — complete with glass case — was a task successfully undertaken recently by the Glasgow branch of Pickfords Industrial.
The W,000 model was placed in specially-made slings by Pickfords and lifted by crane from its resting place in Glasgow's Museum of Transport. From there, Pickfords transported the model to QE2 manufacturers John Brown En gineering, where it was installed into the company's foyer in readiness for a visit by Her Majesty the Queen to Clydebank on August 9.
The model was constructed over a period of three years by Gerald Cassidy, Deputy Keeper and Colin McQueen, a technician at the Museum. The hull of the model was used by John Brown as the original test tank for the liner and Messrs Cassidy and McQueen made the perfect replica of the 65,863-ton ship around this base.
