SCANIAS THRUST to meet Euro-5 includes a new range of 13-litre six-pot EGR engines which will be phased in alongside the current 12-litre engine line-up. They will be available from 360-60hp and will need no exhaust after-treatment. The existing ninelitre five-cyl inder engine, rated at 230-320hp, will also use EGR to meet Eurc-5. For now the 620hp V8 will use SCR at Euro-5, but in time the whole range will use EGR.
Scania is also developing a high-pressure injection system with Cummins as it moves towards ever-lower exhaust emissions. Production of the latest generation, the XPI, has begun in Mexico and will be extended to a new plant in Sedertalje, Sweden in 2009.
Scania will launch new cab options in the autumn including the 0-Series (midway between the P and R Series), a Highline version of the P-cab and R-Series updates.
