ROM April 1 the sections of le Employment Protection ,ct 1975 which entitle mployees to time off to carry ut certain trade union activies will come into force.
This will complete the nplementation of all sections f the Act.
The provisions are aimed at nproving the general conduct f industrial relations.
Under Section 57 an mployer must allow an mployee who is an official of n independent trade union ecognised by the employer to ake reasonable time off work /Rh pay to: I Carry out those of his duties s an official which are conerned with industrial relaIons between the employer nd any associated employer nd their employees.
I Undergo training in industial relations which is relevant to those duties and is approved by the TUC or the union.
Under Section 58 an employer must permit an employee who is a member of an independent recognised trade union reasonable time off — not necessarily with pay — for certain trade union activities.
Section 59 states that employers should in certain circumstances permit employees reasonable time off to perform duties connected with some public positions that they may hold.
Section 61 states that where an employee with at least two years service is being made redundant he or she is entitled to reasonable time off to look for a new job or arrange training for a new job.
