Welcome Break
AN ATTEMPT to attract more drivers to Welcome Break motorway service areas in the UK started on Monday this week.
Lorry drivers stand the chance of winning up to £20,000 in a Playpoker promotion lasting until October.
Any driver calling at a Welcome Break service area can collect a leaflet containing three playing cards. When five cards have been collected drivers can check if they hold a winning combination and claim the appropriate prize.
If the cards do not win any prizes they can be traded in for a 50p food and drink voucher for use at any Welcome Break service area.
BELL'S transport division — Towmaster Transport — made a profit of £74,000 in the six months ended December 31, 1983, compared with a profit of £12,000 in the similar six-month period in the previous year.
The Perth-based Scotch whisky group reported last week: "The elimination of uneconomic activities has enabled the transport division to become a more efficient unit and the company will report a profit for the half-year to June 30, 1984, compared with a £10,000 loss for the same period in 1983."
