Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

This journal is extensively read by the heads of many wealthy commercial houses.

People up and down the country, in spite of the holidays, continue to talk about the recent show at Olympia. Its value in creating new interest has been enormous.

The Municipal Authorities of Algiers are in the market for the supply of three motor streetwatering carts and five road-sweeping machines. It is anticipated that the business will go to some French maker.

Army Manceuvres.

We learn that considerablyhigher terms are being asked, this year, in respect of the hiring of commercial vehicles for the purposes of the manceuvres, both by the owners from the contractors and by the contractors from the Government.. Having regard to the severe conditions of use, we are not surprised to be informed to this effect.

German Growth.

A census by the German military authorities shows that there are now 7700 commercial-motor vehicles in that empire, and that the whole of these might be called up for service in time of war. This considerable total tends to discount recent assertions that the German War Office is forced to approve relatively-high subvention terms because of a dearth of vehicles in the country.

Checking Axle-weights.

ID view of the fact that the Lancashire County Council will to-day (Thursday) appoint all superintendents, inspectors and sergeants of police as dulyauthorized officers, under the Heavy Motor Car Order, to check axle-weights, it is as well that drivers should be warned that they are not obliged under that regula tion to travel to any weighing machine which is more than half a mile from the point at which the request is made to them. They must, however, subject to that maximum distance, proceed to any weighbridge whatsoever, and not merely to a public weighbridge. The wording of the Order is "A public weighing machine, or other weighing machine which is converuently accessible, and which belongs to or is subject to the control, or may be used for any purposes of a registering authority, or of any other council having control of the highway." This is.comprehensive ; it allows no evasion. Winnipeg Agrimotor Trials.

We publish two summary tables, on the next page, . concerning last month's trials of agrimotors at Winnipeg. There were no English competitors.

Calcutta Activity.

The Calcutta papers of the 17th ult., which are to hand by the last Indian mail, give particulars of a project. for the formation of the Calcutta Motor Transport Co.. Ltd., with a capital of 15 lakhs of rupees. A Mr. P. S. Michael is the managing director of the promoting syndicate. Considerable references are made in the preliminary literature to the claims of the Renard train.

The Next Subsidy Trials.

We are advised by the War Department that six manufacturers have entered for the next Subsidy Trials. Three-tornars have been entered by Clayton and Co. (Huddersfield), Ltd., Dennis Bros. (1913), Ltd., The Lacre Motor Car Co.. Ltd., The Maudslay Motor Co.. Ltd., Walker Bros. (Wigan), Ltd.. and The Wolseley Tool and Motor Car Co., Ltd. ; the last-named company has also entered a 30 cwt. vehicle. It is stated that the entry of a vehicle by another firm is still under consideration, and that a fur ther trial will be held in the spring of 1914. The forthcoming trials will, it is now intimated, not begin until the 9th October.
