Gas THE maximum amount of fuel which is likely fo be obtainable for vehicles running on producer gas is about 200,000 tons a year, unless other important work is to be interfered with. If there was atraffic jam, however, something else might have to go before allowing road transport to be immobilized. It is, apparently, the intention of Sir Alfred E. Faulkner, CB., C.B.E., the Director of Producer Gas Vehicles in the M. of W.T., to have as many operators as possible fitting the equipment, so that each can obtain its nucleus of trained drivers, and' find out how to overcome its teething troubles. The fitting, however, will not apply 1,0 owners of one vehicle.
The idea of employing only two types of producer is to permit the placing of orders for quantity production and thus obtain reduced prices, whilst simplifying the stocking of spare parts in various parts of the country.. It is also hoped that much of the work of the fitting will be handled through vehicle makers. The right way fo convert an engine is to get the maker to do this, whilst working through their agents would give good servicing and maintenance. At the same time, the Government does not want to stop the development of Other types, and it is not wedded to the G.E.P., or the Tilling development of this.
