WITH the public hearings concluded. the five members of the Phelps Brown Committee of Inquiry into the pay and conditions of London busmen are now hard at work going through the large amount of evidence, both written and oral. Their report, which will be submitted to the Ministers of Labour and Transport, is not expected to be ready until the end of this month or early March.
Unlike their interim report, the final report is expected to be far more complicated. The busmen are confident that it will mean another pay rise, on top of the interim settlement, London Transport, for their part, hope to get the go-ahead for their ambitious plans for higher productivity.
