• A new type of 2-to-1 step-up gearbox has been developed by Wellworthy Ltd., Lymington, Hants, for the company's WeliworthyRicardo WS9 pneumatic-discharge axial-piston compressor. Of robust design, the gearbox is unified with the end cover, but the assembly incorporates an air gap which eliminates the possibility of gearbox oil contaminating the air being delivered by the compressor. The model is only liin. longer than the previous unit.
It is pointed out by the company that increasing interest is being shown by operators in this country in higher discharge pressure for handling roadand rail-borne powders in bulk. Discharge pressures of up to 30 p.s.i.g. and air flows up to 250 cu.ft./min are within the range of the WS9 Mark V unit, the compactness of which is of special merit in typical bulk-vehicle applications. Redisposition of the feet of the new unit has, it is claimed, eliminated vibration.
