Higher horsepower engines, increased engine bearing loads, and the development of three lubricating oil additives Have prompted Shell to uprate its present range of engine lubricating oils. The result of the uprating is a range of new oils.
The most advanced, Myrina, is a 20W/40 multigrade and is claimed to provide outstanding thermal stability to give deposit-free pistons and eliminate piston-ring sticking.
Rimula CT and Rotella TX, the latter replacing the present Rotella T oil, are considered suitable for the higher powered naturally aspirated diesel engines, some turbocharged engines — in the case of the Rimula CT, aid turbocharged engines.
CT will be available as an SAE 10W; 20/20W and 30 oil and the TX in similar single grades, but also as a 20W/40 multigrade.
Shell Rotella SX, a development of Rotella S, is considered suitable for small and mediumpower petrod and diesel engines (naturally aspirated) presently used. The oil is said to possess anti-thickening qualities and good high-temperature performance. It is available in single or multigrade forms.
