• Soviet transport engineers believe that fast trams capable of developing a cruising speed of over 37 mph may become a serious competitor to buses and trolley-buses for city transport.
The first experimental fast tramway line, seven miles long, will be built in Saratov, on the Volga. It will be completely but off from motor and pedestrian traffic.
Similar lines for Volgograd, Penn and Riga are now being designed.
