lalisalion; its bespoke chassis and bodies based on the Elite low-entry chassis-cab took 42% of the two, three and fouraxle market last year.
Norman Thoday, Dennis Eagle's MD of commercial operations, reports a mold shift away from basic 6x4 chassis on ref usecollection vehicles. "Without a doubt, the most durable RCV chassis is the 6x4,' he says. "However, many operators are choosing a variety of different axle configurations, often as narrow-track variants where increased manoeuvrability is required."
More operators are speccing the 2.2mwide narrow-chassis IRCVs, and one of the
main drivers behind this is the fact they can operate up to 26 tonnes. Thoday says: "Equally, they provide better manoeuvrability when operating in inner-city and restrictedaccess areas. In addition to our narrow track 6x2 mid-lift and mid-steer chassis, an increasing number of operators are choosing our equivalent 6x2 tag or rear-steer chassis."
