3-ton and 10-ton vehicles, Albion Motors, Ltd., is equipping a factory near its existing works at Scotstoun, Glasgow. It is expected to be in full production by next spring, employing 600-700 men.
The development is taking place at the old Halley works, which Albion acquired many years ago. These premises have been used for export packing. Big extensions are being made and the works are being converted into an up-to-date plant to produce vehicles by conveyor-belt assembly methods. The factory will be self-contained: the tool room, machine shop and assembly lines are at present being fittedout and heattreatment furnaces and other equipment installed.
When the rearmament programme slackens, the new works will be devoted to civilian production.. The existing factory has reached the limits of its capacity.
