• Facts about the effect of vehicle vibration on drivers, showing how this can lead to internal disorders and loss in productivity are highlighted in a new 16mm colour film "The Smooth Ride" by UOP Bostrom (UK) Ltd.
The film, using live recordings of actual users comments and the views of an ergonomist research worker adopts a down-to-earth approach to the subiect of ergonomics in the commercial vehicle cab.
A Bostrom experimental engineer states that the only satisfactory way to improve ride is to isolate the driver from vehicle vibrations. This can be done by using a padded cushion, a spring seat or a true suspension seat. But it is concluded that padded cushions and spring seats leave something to be desired in practice and that the answer to problems of bad ride is a suspension seat with a resonant frequency of about 1 cis with a suitable amount of damping.
This 15 min. film is available on loan, free of charge. For sufficiently large audiences Bostrom will supply a lecturer and demonstration unit to provide a 1-2 hour programme. E.J.M.
