• BOCM PauIs is planning to replace a fleet of eight-wheeler rigids used for animal feed distribution in the West Country with Wisbech Bulk Systems triaxle trailers equipped with Hosto hydraulically powered rear steering gear. The result is an increase in payload of around four tonnes per vehicle. An on-board SAME donkey engine is used to power the hydraulic systems on the trailer. This replaces the PTO used on an eight-wheeler. As the donkey engine can be run on red diesel, it offers significant fuel savings. Wisbech reckons the trailer life is around 14 years, twice that of an eight-wheeler.
