• A man who broke into the VI's Birmingham District Office at Garretts Green has been committed for trial at Birmingham Crown Court accused of burglary with intent to steal. Peter Bushell, of Ramsay Road, Nechells, is also accused of assaulting two police officers and of possessing a prohibited weapon.
Authority granted
• A bid by Cardiff Transport for licence authority to base 10 vehicles and 60 trailers at the Llanwern steelworks at Newport was granted at a Cardiff public inquiry by South Wales TCJohn Mervyn Pugh.
Serious warning
• Wolverhampton based Big Time Soft Drinks escaped with a serious warning about its maintenance when it appeared at a Birmingham disciplinary inquiry. West Midland TC John Mervyn Pugh said it had taken advantage of advice to have its vehicles put through fresh annual tests prior to the hearing.
No action
• West Midland TC John Mervyn Pugh took no action against Birmingham-based Carntrex because the company is trying to get its maintenance right. He increased the authorisation on its licence from four vehicles to five, with a condition that no more than five be operated at any one time.
