• Railtrack has issued a new number for drivers and hauliers to contact when planning routes and seeking details of low bridges.
The new number is different to the "Bridge Hotline" which the railway infrastructure operator launched two weeks ago (CM 24-30 October).
The move follows complaints by hauliers that the hotline was unable to provide route plan
ning and bridge height information despite being promoted as offering this service.
Hauliers are now being advised to phone the AA Route Planning Service on 0990 500600, and only to use the hotline if involved in a bridge-bashing accident. The Bridge Hotline is 0345 003355.
Railtrack says the hotline was set up so that people had to remember only one number.
