his own van as he tried to stop it being stolen has been jailed for life after being found guilty of his murder.
Matthew Watkins was found to be three times over the drink-drive limit when he accelerated the stolen van "hard and fast" towards Jason Weaver, leaving him fatally injured (CM 31 Oct-6 Nov).
Watkins had denied murder, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Passing sentence, Mr Justice Smith told Watkins that he had wasted the life of a "good, decent, hard working man, who was a son, husband and father".
Daniel Bishop pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking in connection with Weaver's death; Smith sentenced him to two years and four months' imprisonment.
