Transamerica leases include `wear and tear'

In a move to clarify who pays for what at the end of a lease, Transamerica Trailer Leasing has drawn up a document defining the term "wear and tear". Concerned that some of its competitors are "giving the industry a bad name", Transamerica has developed the document to "resolve the issues which cause customer concern and lead to disputes on redelivery of equipment".
The document, which was developed in consultation with shipping line DFDS, will be launched "progressively" across Transamerica's European customer base. It cov ers 44 components, including all the major areas of dispute".
Transamerica's David Howarth says: "Too many rental companies try to recoup losses incurred on inadequate per diem rates by inflating redelivery costs."
