THREE new Leyland-Merryweather fire-engines have augmented the Bombay fire service. Open transverse bodies have been fitted. The pump is driven by a power take-off from the gearbox and delivers 800 g.p.m. at 60 lb. per sq. in. There is also a separate rotary pump with a 40-gallon first-aid tank.
Each machine, which is based on a Leyland Comet petrol-engined chassis, carries a lightweight portable Telescala escape which extends to 50 ft.
