mEW Austin and Morris 7-ton tippers
will be seen in public for the first time at Earls Court. The mechanical specification of both vehicles is identical.
They arc powered by the B.M.C. 90 b.p.h. oil engine, and power steering and Eaton two-speed axles are standard. A wheelbase of 10 ft. gives a turning circle of only 42 ft. and the chassis are suitable for 6-cu.-yd. bodies., The basic price is £1,344. plus £294 16s, 2d. purchase tax.
BATTERY REFERENCE TO COMMISSION LAPSES
THE reference to the Monopolies and Restrictive Practices Commission concerning electric batteries is to be allowed to lapse. Under the Restrictive Trade Practices Act, which came into force cm August '2, the functions of the Commission have been divided betvveft a new Monopolies Commissiori and a Restrictive Practices Court.
Work on the reference to batteries was not far advanced. Provided that Parliament approves the Registration of Restrictive Trading Agreements Order, 1956, agreements on common prices and tendering via be subject to registration as from November 30.
RENTAL SCHEME OFFERED BY LONDON DEALERS
ASCHEME which is stated to eliminate the disadvantages of contract hire whilst retaining its advantages is being offered by Gordon Cars (London), Ltd., 373 Euston Road, London, N.W.1. It concerns the rental of vehicles ranging from 7 cwt. to 7 tons capacity.
The company are Rootes Group district dealers and quote £3 10s. 6d. a week for the rental of a Commer Cob. and if6 for a Commer 7-ton oiler with overdrive. Vehicles of other makes can be supplied on request. Standard specifications are quoted, but any type, of special bodywork, painted and lettered to individual requirements. can be rented_ There is no limitation on mileage or use.
B.T.C. TO VISIT SOUTH WALES • THE British Transport Commission
are to meet in Cardiff on September 13, in accordance with their policy of periodically holding their meetings outside London. The day before, Sir Brian Robertson, chairman, members of the Commission and the Western Area Board will inspect rail developments at Newport and Cardiff. A party will also visit Newport, Cardiff and Barry docks.
On the afternoon of the day of their meeting, the Commission will visit British Road Services installations in Cardiff.
During their tour, the Commission will meet prominent South Wales civic, industrial and trade union representafives.
