• East Sussex Ambulance Service has taken delivery of 21 Mercedes-Benz ambulances based on Mercedes' purposebuilt petrol-engined 3.35mmwheelbase 310 ambulance chassis.
These latest additions to the ESAS 100-strong fleet feature four-speed automatic transmission. They have been supplied through Panda Diesels of Newhaven and converted by Wadham Stringer.
Variations from the standard 310T1 specification include lowered suspension with revised shock absorbers for a smoother ride, a re-routed exhaust system giving side discharge, and a rear anti-roll stabiliser. The heavy-duty electrical system includes a 70 amp alternator and twin 88amp-hour batteries.
