already suffered from more than its fair share of careless driving down the fairway.
A contractor working on the course at The Belfry, Sutton Coldfield, managed to drive his truck through a water pipe which leaked more than 14 million litres over 12 hours (he neglected to report his little accident).
As a result the fairways are not as verdant as might have been hoped, although the fire brigade is doing its best to fill up the near-empty lakes from a hosepipe stretched across the eighth fairway, in time for the annual Europe vs USA contest.
