QI have a 36-seat coach which is fitted with a speed limiter. I am told by a traffic examiner that I should have a notice to this effect. Is he right?
OH, Swindon ARegulation 36A (Speed Limiters) of the Construction & Use Regulations 1986 defines the times when coaches must be fitted with speed limiters. If yours is new, then it must have one, and the traffic examiner is right.
Section 70A (2) of the same acts says: "Every vehicle to which this paragraph applies shall be equipped with a plate which is in a conspicuous and readily accessible position within the driving compartment which shows clearly and indelibly the particulars specified in Class 10 of Part 1 of the British Standard."
If the speed limiter does not comply with the British Standard then Section 70A (4) applies and you need a plate which shows again "clearly and indelibly:" 0 The words "speed limiter fitted"; 0 The set speed in mph to which the limiter is calibrated; 0 The name or trade mark of the limiter calibrator.
