BARELY A YEAR after leaving the industry, haulage boss John Cutler is back in charge of a transport firm following the purchase of a Southampton haulage operation.
Cutler was previously MD and co-owner of Hammond Logistics, which he sold to Bibby in March 2005. He stayed on for six months before paffing company with the firm last September.
Now Cutler-who says he felt he was "too young to hang up [his] boots" has bought H Young Transport through his acquisition firm, Firefox.
Cutler sees Young as being in a similar position to Hammond when he took it over: "It's got a national presence and a great service reputation; that's a great stepping stone to build a group from."
Cutler plans to target dedicated and semidedicated contract distribution to sit alongside its current groupage and palletised distribution operations The 100-truck haulier had a turnover of 28.5m in the year ending October 2005, with a pre-tax loss of £333,066. Cutler plans intends to double the firm's turnover within two years.
It has depots in Southampton, Huddersfield and Glasgow; Cutler is not ruling out a further acquisitions to set up a depot in the Midlands.
