HAVING READ Oliver Dixon's article and his predictions of gloom about oil (CM 25 January) I wondered whether it was just me who found it confusing, unnecessarily complicated and doom-laden.
Has he never heard of man's ingenuity? Have a little faith. I do believe in the future. We may lose one cheap source of energy, but with all the brains and finance that is available across the world, surely we will find another.
According to the experts some 30 years ago when I was at university, the ice age was returning and the ice should have reached London by 2007!
I have no doubt if it was not for all that cheap oil and the resultant vested interests, the internal combustion engine would have been replaced years ago.
So let's be positive and find alternatives. Nobody likes change, but the world is a constantly changing place. Its not the shortage of oil in the world that is the problem hut the number of people— oops! Let's not disturb another hornets' nest.
WELL DONE MR X (`Stop Your Whingeing',CM 25 January). I fully agree with your sentiments. It's a pity that a lot of others in the industry do not display the necessary professionalism,and fail to obey the basics of road transport law.
As a case in point, one of your readers wrote in to complain about his treatment by Vosa.
Before my health failed I worked in the transport industry and I ensured, wherever possible, that legislation was complied with. On the rare occasions that an infringement occurred, it was detected within the company and swift action taken to prevent recurrence.
If all companies operated such robust procedures,the role of Vosa's traffic enforcement staff would be rendered virtually obsolete.
Road traffic legislation has been introduced to promote safety for you, your loved ones, your staff and the general public. If you aren't prepared to abide by it, you should get out of the industry.
