THE municipal bus undertaking of
Rochdale, Lancashire, has been threatened with expulsion from the National Federation and the two National Councils for the road passenger transport industry. Reason for the threat is the agreement by a negotiating committee to grant an interim payment of 8s. 9d. per week to bus crews, pending a national wage agreement. The decision is subject to confirmation by Rochdale Town Council.
The National Joint Industrial Council warned that Rochdale's action "cuts deeply into the roots of collective bargaining" and that it would prejudice national negotiations. No comment was forthcoming from the undertaking's general manager when approached by The ComMercial Motor.
