British Road Services round-the-clock rescue operation "is snowballing so fast that it looks as though extra staff might be called in to cope with an increasing workload."
That news was revealed this week, after it was learned that only eight weeks after the service was launched, target membership for the first year has been overtaken.
Almost 30,000 vehicles have joined the scheme so far 10,000 more than the estimated year's figure — with almost 700 companies registered as members. These figures exclude the BRS and National Freight Corporation fleets.
A spokesman for BRS said "Calls for help are coming in at the control centre in Birmingham at the rate of over • 200-a-week."
