recent report 1 on the meeting at Thurston tipper School on 19 June to discuss the future of the experimental lorry ban on part of the A1088.
Although I have two sons who run an international haulage business I attended the meeting purely as a concerned resident. Most of the speakers who supported the ban had a very good case for wishing it to be retained on the grounds of the general unsuitability of their village roads for heavy lorries.
I was saddened therefore to observe that in order to achieve their objective many of them were prepared to condemn ALL lorry drivers as selfish, inconsiderate, speeding maniacs Would these same people stereotype all accountants as crooked, all solicitors as sharks and all managers as incompetent?
Lorry drivers also live in communities and have homes and families they cherish and wish to protect. By no means do all of them deserve the vilification heaped upon their heads at that meeting.
