• A driver employed by Eddie Stobart 'keyed' the speed limiter on his 38-tonne Scania to get back to base quicker, Droitwich magistrates were told last week.
Mark Anthony Simpson from Leicester was fined £350 with 170 costs after admitting having a speed limiter that did not meet the legal requirements.
Simon Phillips, prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, told the court: "The speed limiter did not appear to be functioning properly when it was checked last November. Simpson had 'keyed the limiter' so he could go faster, hopefully without detection, and get back to base quicken" Phillips explained the term 'keying' to magistrates: On certain vehicles it is possible to half turn the ignition key which affects the speed limiter."
