AMtETING of the members of the East Midland Area of Associated Road Operators, on Monday, at Nottingham, was particularly well
attended. Our costs expert, S.T.R., gave an address on the subject of operating costs and hauliers' charges. S.T.R. dwelt on the importance of knowledge of operating costs to all users of commercial motors. "The user must know what each vehicle is costing," he said, " if his transport is to be conducted efficiently."
Turning to the particular problems of hauliers, he stressed the importance of having a standard schedule of charges based on cost plus profit. "A standard," he pointed out, "is already in existence in The Commercial Motor Tables of Operating Costs," and he proceeded to explain and to illustrate by simple example how that standard was calculated and how it should be applied.
The address was followed by a keen discussion, in which quite a number of those present joined. Mr. Donaldson Wright, in the chair, also took part, as did Mr. E. 0. Gray, area secretary of the Association.
