TWO interesting semi-trailers a id a four-wheeled trailer are featured by this Continental maker. One of the semi-trailers, designed for 5-ton payloads, is of the tubular-backbone type and has. oscillating 'axles. Progressive transverse springing is employed and the wheels are carried on struts. An automatic coupling gear is incorporated, and the drop-sided body is equipped with a Nfeiller three-way hydraulic tipping gear. The body length is 13 ft: and the width is 7 ft. 6 ins. a54 The second semi-trailer has a steel frame of normal design, a feature cf the construction being that all the joints are electrically welded. An automatic coupling gear is incorporated and it is of simple hut sturdy design. Westinghouse air-pressure brakes are provided and the twin rear wheels are mounted on hubs with adjustable taper-roller hearings. Jockey wheels are fitted and may quickly be brought into position by a band-operated gear. Designed for a 6k-ton pay-load, this semi-trailer has a drop-sided body, the length of which is 18 ft. 1 in. A feature of the automatic coupling is that the only moving part of the trailer portion of the coupling is a steel ball at the base of the king-pin.
Having a load capacity of 5. tons, the four-wheeled trailer is of conventional design. The brakes on the front wheels are automatically operated when the trailer overruns the tractor unit.
