THE charge against the railways that they were, by reducing fares, abstracting traffic created by coach operators was made at a sitting of the North-Western Traffic Commissioners. York Motors (Manchester), Ltd., applied for substantial reductions in fares on North Wales routes.
Mr. F. Hindle, for the applicant, stated that the reduction of rail fares had seriously affected the bookings on these daily express road services, particularly those running beyond Llandudno to Bangor. On the Llanfairfechan fare York Motors proposed a reduction of 3s, 6d,. The rail reductions since 1933 amounted to 7s. Id, The Bangor fare by road was at present 165. 6d, day return and 20s. longdate return. The proposed fares were 14s. and 17s. respectively. The rail fare from Manchester to Bangor was at present 16s.
