• The 50,000th Ford Cargo to be sold in the UK was handed over to British Telecom last week.
Since the model was introduced in 1981, as a replacement for the DSeries, around 70,000 Cargos have been built at Langley, near Slough, with about 20,000 exported.
Cargo exports never reached the levels Ford hoped for, the plan was that over half of Langley's production would go abroad, which is one of the main reasons for the company's decision to back out of the European truck market.
