• The Labour Party has unveiled its plans to unravel the 1985 Transport Act after the next General Election.
Speaking at the Association of District Council's Transport Conference, transport spokesman Bob Hughes said, "The repeal of the 1985 Transport Act will be a prime priority."
Hughes said the Labour Party plans to re-introduce road service licensing, to restructure municipal bus operations, to introduce five-year local authority transport plans, and to introduce legislation enabling local authorities to acquire NBC subsidiaries.
Labour will also look at the local bus grant, but Hughes warned there would be severe financial constraints.
