APLEA for cheap fares to be granted to old-age pensioners on buses in north Staffordshire has been turned down by the Potteries Motor Traction Co. Ltd., of Stokeupon-Trent—the area's main bus operators.
Mr. Arthur Rhodes, one of a four-strong deputation to the company from the North Staffs Pensioners' Federation, said: "We asked for concessionary fares at off-peak periods—the time when buses are often halfempty. But the company has now told us they cannot meet the request because of the cost involved."
He added that a mass meeting would be held shortly, when the organization of a protest petition throughout the Potteries would be considered.
