MR. A. W. ALLEN, chairman of Atkinson Lorries (Holdings) Ltd., reports that during 1968 turnover is planned to increase and "emphasis will be placed on technical ability at an economic price both to ourselves and to the customer.
"There is a spate of new regulations to make vehicles safer and more in line with international standards. We agree with these principles, but speaking as manufacturers, it is essential that ample warning and concise information is given to us on these matters, otherwise costs of production cannot but be increased.
"The Government has announced its intention to bring out an Act which will transfer goods traffic from the road to British Rail, thus considerably reducing the number of heavy vehicles on the roads. The basis upon which this Utopian scheme is to be decided is efficiency. My Board is happy to accept this challenge and hopes that the Government can convincingly demonstrate the viability of this policy."
