A Cambridgeshire operator has hit out at fuel card company Fuelserv after the price of his diesel soared to 105p/lit almost 10p/lit more than his local forecourt.
David Pitt, from Benson David, says he almost fell over when he got his invoice. "I have used Fuelserv for the past 10 months," he says. "It was only when I looked at the receipts to do my VAT return and checked back over previous months that I found I was paying between £20 and £30 over normal pump price every time I filled up using the Fuelserv card.
"Since I have been with them I have spent 22,300 more than I would have buying the same amount of diesel at the pump."
Fuelserv marketing manager Michael McWhinney declined to comment on any individual cases but says: "We are working in the commercial fuel market, which is more dynamic than pump prices.
"There are positive things to being in this market, as when the cost of fuel comes down the market responds more quickly than at the pump."
