Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FLEET SIZE: Nine (two Scanias, one Daf and six Mercedes CONTRACT: Delivering groceries to major supermarket chain Mace PJ Walsh manages to run a fleet of nine trucks from the cab of his own truck, and to hear him explain it makes the operation seem easy enough.

"I have a bookkeeper in one day a week. It's set ,vork, so it doesn't take a lot of organising. I enter the diary every day myself and the bookkeeper puts it into the computer and all the wages and invoices and everything is done."

Five of Walsh's trucks deliver groceries every day to the Mace supermarket chain in addition to distributing Ballygowan water from Newcastle West. Other of its trucks haul feed and fertiliser and there are a further three working in Harrington's ‘.. \ quarry in Kilkelly, hauling sand and pipes.

"It's all national work," says Walsh. 'We do not travel across the Channel at ai., It's the way it worked out, bull have no urge to go to the Continent."

He maintains direct contact with his customers by calling in to see them several times a week.

The fleet includes two Scanias, one Daf and six Mercedes; none are more than three years old. "Servicing is done by a mechanic every second weekend and I do some myself and some of the drivers look after their own lorries," says Walsh.

Driver training and safety was provided for the quarry drivers; other drivers had already taken training courses before they joined the firm.

Walsh is a member of the IRHA, but generally finds he has little time left over for committee work at the end of his busy day.
