have a dualpurpose character to suit the operator's particular needs, this ERF Carrimore articulated outfit (right) is plated for 28 tons gross and will carry 17+ tons payload. The main frame of the Carrimore tandem-axle semi-trailer is reinforced so that it can carry an outward load of full cable drums, and a skid bar is fitted at the rear, and a winch at the front to facilitate loading.
On the return journey a load of raw materials—mainly copper components—is carried within the body of the trailer, while empty cable drums are accommodated. as shown here, in pairs above the load.
Detachable angle-iron cross-members are fitted to the reinforced dropsides by locating pegs. which are themselves adjustable, and these carry the drums.
The trailer is 27 ft. 6 in. long and 8 ft. wide, and the sides are 2 ft. 6 in. high, the headboard being 4 ft. The outfit has three-line air-pressure braking, the nohop bogie having 161, in. by 7 in. S-cam brakes.
The outfit is operated by E. E. Howe's Transport Ltd.. of Enfield.

Almost litn. tons of waste is needed and the greatest cost of the runway extension is for tipping to bring the land at the end of the existing runway up to the right level.
