Development, the Government agency. Vickers-Armstrongs has been asked to produce a mock-up for an air-cushion vehicle which could be used to carry exceptionally large and heavy loads for the Central Electricity Generating Board.
The vehicle being • considered would move in the ordinary way along roads. But when it reached a bridge a flexible skirt would be lowered and air would be used to form a pad beneath it. The weight would thus be borne over a large area. rather than concentrated through a few points.
